We share the skills and experience of people who have bought up families (Supergrans) with people who are just starting out. Why learn valuable life skills the hard way when you do it so easily with Supergrans?
Not everyone has learned these life skills for a myriad of reasons and that’s why Supergrans is here.
SuperGrans Tairawhiti has been operating since 2003. All Supergrans branches are ‘Not For Profit’ charitable trusts. At the present time there are 7 branches around the country.
Our Mission at SuperGrans is to be able to pass on skills for safe, healthy, low-impact, budget living.
How to make your income go further, supermarket shopping tips. Cooking healthy, tasty meals on a shoestring budget. Growing your own food.
Getting into a routine around the home.
Preserving in-season fruit and vegetables. How to apply for a job.
Other things like this that you might want to learn. Just ask us, we’re sure to have the perfect person for you.
Just phone, text, e-mail or drop in to see us and we can get things rolling.
Do we have a branch near you? Just click on ‘Branches’ on the left hand side of this page and you’ll see where our branches are at the present time.
We are planning more branches so keep an eye out on this website or contact Supergrans Aotearoa to find out more.

Absolute Integrity
We aspire to respect other people’s perspectives, and endeavour to encourage trustworthiness and honesty in all relationships. We encourage all clients and staff to “remain true to themselves” despite circumstances.
Valuing Individuals
Every member of the SuperGrans family, clients and staff, is valued. We approach each other as equals with different knowledge and skills.
Passing Skills
We are happy to support and listen, but our core business is passing skills and knowledge. While we do what we can to offer skills and knowledge, we know we can’t force change.
Non-Judgement
We approach others with an open mind. We know we’re all doing the best with what we’ve got.
Kaitiakitanga/Responsible Stewardship
We take on the responsibilities of our roles as community workers, in enabling the flow of knowledge and skills between generations. As such we aspire to honour the past and enable the future.

Our ‘Supergrans’ are pretty amazing. Some are older ‘Grans’, some young ‘Grans’ and some not ‘Grans’ at all, in fact some are blokes!
They all have some things in common though – huge practical experience in life skills and they’re generous, community minded people.
The Supergrans that work with our clients are specially selected for the type of experience and skills they have, and they are trained to be Supergrans. They do this all in their own time alongside paid co-ordinators to guide them.
If you would like to train as a Supergrans volunteer, we would love to hear from you. It doesn’t matter if you’ve only got a few hours a week.
We are very careful to check that Supergran volunteers have no criminal history and are the sort of people that are good role models. This is very important to us. We have to know that our clients are safe and can look up to our Supergrans with great respect.
Then, we match them up with clients that need their particular skills.
If it’s workshops we’re doing, there are lots of volunteers working in the group so that there is individual attention all the way.
Inspiring others is rewarding work, especially when you know it is going to help young children be healthier and happier.
